Purchase & Support
Historical context and options for supporting HGE development.
Historical Purchase Options
HGE was originally developed by Haaf (Alexander Parpura) and offered through various channels over the years. At different times, the project offered:
- Free license — For non-commercial and educational use
- Commercial license — For commercial game distribution
- Source code access — For developers wanting to modify the engine
Current Status
HGE is now available through community distributions. The original purchase and licensing systems are no longer active, but the engine remains available for use under the terms of your specific distribution.
See the License page for more information about licensing terms.
BASS Audio Library
Note that HGE uses the BASS audio library, which has separate licensing requirements. If you're developing a commercial product, you may need to obtain a BASS license independently.
Visit the BASS website for current licensing information.
Supporting the Community
While original commercial licenses are no longer sold, you can support the HGE community by:
- Sharing knowledge — Answer questions in the forum
- Contributing — Improve documentation or share tutorials
- Showcasing — Share your HGE projects to inspire others
- Attribution — Credit HGE in your game's documentation or credits
Getting Help
If you need assistance with HGE:
- Documentation — Comprehensive API reference
- Demo Projects — Learn from examples
- Community Forum — Ask questions and get help
Alternative Engines
If HGE doesn't meet your needs, there are many other game development options available today. The skills you learn with HGE—C++ programming, sprite rendering, game loops—transfer well to other frameworks.
